I know it can be confusing with all the different "myo" terminology out there. So let's break it down.

1.Orofacial Myology: The STUDY of the muscles of the mouth and face and how they relate to chewing and swallowing, speaking, breathing, sleeping, craniofacial growth, and dentition.

Orofacial (mouth/face) Myo (muscle) ology (study of)

2.Orofacial Myofunctional Disorder (OMD):The DYSFUNCTION or imbalance of the muscles in the face and mouth that interferes with normal growth, development, or function and results in malocclusion and suboptimal facial development. (ex: mouth breathing)

Orofacial (mouth/face) Myofunctional (muscle function) Disorder (not optimal condition)

3.Myofunctional Therapy (also called "myo" therapy for short): The TREATMENT of the muscle dysfunction. It is an exercise based therapeutic technique based on the principles of motor learning and neuroplasticity.

Orofacial (mouth/face) Myofunctional (muscle function) Therapy (treatment)

4.Myofascial (Release) Therapy: A “hands on” technique that aims to alleviate pain and improve mobility by releasing tightness and tension in the connective tissue known as the fascia.

Myo(muscle) fascial (the connective web of tissue-fascia) Release (allow to move freely) Therapy (treatment)

Hope this helps!
